Egypt takes delivery of second MRAP batch from U.S.
Egypt’s Ministry of Defence has taken delivery of its second batch of surplus mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles from the United States. The first batch was delivered in May.
The U.S. had agreed to transfer 762 MRAPs to Egypt in order to strengthen Cairo’s counterinsurgency (COIN) and internal security efforts. These would comprise of 400 Caimans, 260 RG-33s, 90 RG-33L (Heavily Armoured Ground Ambulances), and 12 MaxxPro MRAP recovery vehicles.
As they are coming under the Excess Defence Articles (EDA) program, these MRAPs will be provided to Egypt free-of-cost (not including freight and delivery).
