Turkey nearing decision to buy S-400 long-range surface-to-air missile system

The Turkish government is reportedly nearing a final decision towards purchasing Almaz-Antey S-400 long-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems from Russia.

As per Turkey’s state-owned news agency Anadolu Agency, Turkey’s defence minister Fikri Işık was quoted saying, “We are at the final stages of deciding on this [S-400].” Işık noted that Turkey’s requirement for a long-range SAM system was ‘urgent.’

Turkey reportedly began pursuing the S-400 in November. In February, it began talks with Russia for the system and had seemed to reach a favourable point in March when Ankara, as per Rostec’s CEO Sergey Chemezov, requested a loan from the Russian government to help back the deal.

Although it is seeking the S-400, Turkey is also maintaining a domestic long-range SAM program, which Işık stated would enter production “within five-to-seven years.”

Thus far, Russia sold S-400 systems to China and India.

    Türkiye is doing really good.
S400 will be a Game Changer’ for Pakistan if it able to field even three systems. Three system will do the job. One in kashmir Islamabad region another for Lahore side and the third one for sindh Karachi side. I am no expert here, I like to read about defence and make speculation. It’s not hard to panick Indians.

India is on track to receive the S 400 and Russia will never sell these to Pakistan. Since Pakistan is a cash strapped nations it can’t afford these anyways. Case closed

    :

Let’s see – – – In their vicious war against Syria, Turkey is the ONLY country to have downed a Russian jet (for which it should have had its airbases obliterated), and yet Russia is considering a deal with these ISIS Supporters and funders, these purchasers of oil stolen by ISIS?

That’s the most bat-**** crazy thing I’ve heard for some time …

Shouldn’t a member of NATO be buying NATO member systems? Seems a little slapping in the face of NATO to buy hardware from Russia of all places.

As far as I know, the initial negotiations between Turkey and Russia did address this issue and the supposed conclusion was that the S-400 Missile System would not contribute to the NATO arsenal as they would be exclusively used to improve Turkey’s own defence capabilities.

Syria operates the S-300 Missile System, not the S-400.
