Kale to Export KTJ-3200 Mini-Turbojets for Brazil’s MANSUP-ER Anti-Ship Missiles
Turkish aerospace propulsion manufacturer Kale has signed a landmark agreement with Brazil to supply its KTJ-3200 turbojet engines for integration into the Brazilian Navy’s MANSUP-ER (Manobra de Superfície – Extended Range) anti-ship missile (AShM).
This deal signifies a major milestone for Türkiye’s defence exports and strengthens Kale’s position in the global propulsion market for munitions.
Notes and Comments
The agreement was officially signed on April 5, 2025, marking Kale’s first export of the KTJ-3200 engine to South America.
While the exact contract value has not been disclosed, it underscores the growing demand for Türkiye’s indigenous defence technologies.
The KTJ-3200 engines will be delivered in batches over the next three years, with initial deliveries scheduled for late 2025. These engines will be allocated specifically for the MANSUP-ER missile program, which is being developed as a versatile, long-range anti-ship and land-attack system.
KTJ-3200 Turbojet Engine
The KTJ-3200 is among Türkiye’s first domestically developed turbojet engines, designed and manufactured by the private company Kale.
It currently powers Türkiye’s SOM cruise missile and Atmaca anti-ship missile, demonstrating its proven reliability and performance.
The engine generates a thrust of 3.2 kN, enabling high-speed flight and long-range capabilities. Its compact design and robust performance make it ideal for integration into modern missile platforms.
MANSUP-ER AShM
The MANSUP-ER is an advanced long-range surface-to-surface missile system developed by Brazil with a range of 200 km, a top speed of 954 km/h, and an endurance of 17 minutes.
It features a 150 kg warhead and employs an active radar seeker for precision targeting. The missile is equipped with adaptive sea-skimming capabilities, overland flight modes, terminal maneuvers, and simultaneous time-on-target attack capability.
The integration of the KTJ-3200 turbojet engine will enhance the MANSUP-ER’s propulsion system, ensuring optimal performance in diverse operational scenarios.
Industry Impact
This deal represents a key achievement for Kale as it expands its footprint in the munitions market as not only a key input supplier, but a competitor to established vendors in Europe and the U.S.
For Brazil, the acquisition of the KTJ-3200 turbojet engines also helps ensure access to cutting-edge propulsion technology for current and future munitions applications.
The partnership also highlights the increasing collaboration between Türkiye and Brazil in defence technology development and production. Earlier in April, Embraer signed an agreement with Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) to explore potential E2 production work. of nations with end-to-end commercial aircraft manufacturing capabilities.
